Considerations When Inspecting A Used ATV
All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) have a growing community behind them. People have taken a liking to the simplicity of how they operate coupled with the simple joy it gives the rider to go off-roading open to the nature around them. With the growing popularity there are many present opportunities to purchase relatively inexpensive used ATVs for much cheaper than a new one would cost from a dealer. However, this a used ATV purchase should not be taken lightly, there are many things to consider before handing over the cash.
A general rule of thumb that is used also in purchasing used cars is to
take note of how the ATV appears from the outside. If the fenders are
cracked or broken you can quite certainly bet the previous operator may
not have maintained the vehicle to well. However, this is not always the
case because accidents can happen out on the trail and a crack on the
plastic may not reveal the whole history of the ATV. Though it is a
starting point.
If at this point you recognize the brand of the manufacturer as one of
quality and you would be willing to purchase it is important to see some
paperwork. Ask to see the title and make sure the person selling it is
able to do so legally. If they are not, do not take a risk and go for it
anyway, the legal repercussions are not worth the headache. If
everything is clear it is time to look over the final possible deal
breaker.
Next you will want to do the most vital part of the inspection - the
under carriage. Once you have the ATV in a position that you can view
the bottom, look for any tell tale signs that maintenance is in the near
future. Chips and cracks in the frame of the vehicle are no good and
something that should be avoided at all costs. Not only is it a costly
repair but after a certain point it is a very bad accident waiting to
happen.
